My 3 Favourite Novels to Lift you Up and Take you Away
I read a lot under normal circumstances, but right now, I find myself reaching for my all-time favourite books (that are more like dearest friends) to keep me cozy, nourished, and entertained. You'll notice these books are all set in the past, where daily life was much simpler and slower, something we could all lean in to right now.
Hopefully you have access to books in some capacity, so if you can get your hands on any of these gems, you won't be disappointed. If not, I've added some links to audio books that are available (for FREE) on audible right now :)
1) Little Women:
"I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning
how to sail my ship."
The Marches know a thing or two about how to survive and thrive during uncertain times. This precious tale will give you sweet guidance, gratitude, and lots of tender moments. It's also a great book to read aloud to your kids!
2) Pride and Prejudice
“I am the happiest creature in the world. Perhaps other people have said so before, but not one with such justice. I am happier even than Jane; she only smiles, I laugh.”
This book is full of great wit, comedy, personal growth, and of course love. I also find it immensely enjoying reading the language of the time which we must admit is good for our dwindling vocabulary.
3) Anne of Green Gables
"It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will."
Admittedly, I don't really need an excuse to read any book by Lucy Maud Montgomery, because she never fails to warm my heart and give me deep gratitude for the natural beauties of the earth. Whenever I open one of her books, I can feel a sigh of relief. However, Anne will always have a special place in my heart. Her irrepressible, optimistic nature makes her so charming, and the way she sees the delight and beauty of every little thing is something we could all strive for. Also, another perfect book to read aloud to your kids.
No matter what book you pick up over the next few weeks, I wish you all the peace, fancy, and joy you can find in its pages.
